Axia Partners Taps John Ippolito to Head Advisory Practice
August 19, 2004
For Immediate Release

Axia Partners announced that John Ippolito has joined the firm to manage and grow Axia’s advisory practice. In addition to providing M&A and capital raising services, Axia manages a private equity fund that invests in smaller buyouts, recapitalizations and growth financings in the industrial technology sector. Axia Partners was founded in 2002.

Ippolito was most recently a partner at Creek Park Capital, LLC, a firm that focused on advising and investing in micro-cap public companies. Previously, he was Managing Director and Head of the M&A practice at H.C. Wainwright in Boston. Prior to Wainwright, he was Managing Director at Downer & Company, a boutique firm that focuses on middle market cross-border transactions. Ippolito also had nearly 15 years of management and operating experience in technology companies before joining Downer in 1994.

“Axia is the perfect platform for the practice I wanted to be a part of,” said Ippolito. “We will offer high quality advice in three areas: M&A, capital raising, and strategic advisory. This last area, in particular, really capitalizes on the experience of Axia’s principals as operating executives who were also dealmakers. I have known and worked with Peter and Jim for many years and was delighted to have the opportunity to work with them again.”

Since 2002, Axia has been performing advisory engagements based on the strength of the experience of its founding partners, Peter Hunter and Jim Pelusi. Hunter was formerly COO of Data Instruments, Inc., a successful sensor company sold to Honeywell in 1998. While he was at Data Instruments, Hunter executed several acquisitions around the world. Ippolito was the investment banker who advised Data Instruments on its sale to Honeywell. Pelusi was a founder and CEO of FASTech Integration, which was sold to Brooks Automation in 1998. As Senior Vice President of Brooks’ Factory Software Division, Pelusi led a series of acquisitions that helped Brooks grow its software business to over $100 million in revenue.

“Jim and I have seen a strong demand for our assistance on advisory mandates,” said Peter Hunter. “At the same time, our private equity business is demanding more and more of our attention. With the M&A market showing some positive momentum, it made sense to bring someone with John’s investment banking experience on board to help lead the growth of the advisory business.” Pelusi agrees. “Our unique qualification has been our operating experience – seeing deals from the executive’s perspective. We knew that the practice would eventually benefit from additional investment banking experience, and John’s operating history combined with his leadership roles at other investment banks made him a perfect fit for our needs.”
